It is a silent killer, and it claims more victims every year. Dengue does not have any cure as of now. Modern medicine can only work on suppressing the symptoms of dengue, which include fever, extreme body pain, nausea and vomiting, headache, difficulty in swallowing food, etc.

1 Antibiotics: The first and most obvious thing to do is to get a course of antibiotics prescribed by your doctor. The meds will help your body stabilise its temperature and also fight the infection. Meanwhile, you must

2 Drink ginger and turmeric tea: Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and turmeric is an antiseptic. When combined in a tea, they bring down the fever and help create more antibodies to fight the infection. The tea also flushes out the kidneys and removes the dengue toxins from the body.

3 Consume papaya leaves: Papaya leaves are used in Ayurvedic medicines for treating blood disorders. In terms of treatment of dengue fever, the leaves can help in increasing the blood platelet count which can drop tremendously when you get ill with dengue. They also reduce symptoms like chills and body ache. You can crush them to pulp or have them in juice form.

4 Basil and black pepper juice: Boil basil leaves and fresh black pepper in two cups of water, and reduce the water to half. Consume it when warm. This concoction is an antibacterial solution that helps build your immunity.

5 Fenugreek leaves water: Soak fenugreek leaves in a glassful of water overnight. Drink this water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach for a week. Fenugreek has antifungal and antibacterial properties that fight the fever in the body. Also, it has a mild sedative effect that relaxes the body and soothes the joint pain.

Prevention of mosquito bites is the only way to avoid the menace of dengue altogether. You can prevent mosquitoes from entering your house by lighting a mosquito card near your seat, or by spraying the room with mosquito killer spray.

Meanwhile, you can use an electric plug-in mosquito repellent just before going to bed so that mosquitoes are repelled and cannot approach you as you sleep.
